This Swine Life: Pig Named 6-7 Granted Clemency by Miami-Dade Mayor.
It might not have been at the same level as pardoning holiday birds, but the county's top official conducted a Donald Trump moment this week by ritually sparing the life of a pig named Six Seven.
Daniella Levine Cava executed the holiday gesture at the Cuban-themed Latin Cafe 2000 in the center of Miami’s Little Havana neighborhood.
“The swine has done no wrong. She is worthy of this pardon. Her criminal record is spotless,” stated the mayor in a speech with obvious nods to the sheer volume of pardons issued from the start of the commencement of a second term in office.
“If we disregard eating 6 or 7 apples per day,” she went on. “Let this swine have a prosperous future away from worry.”
The event, simultaneously observing and challenging the local cultural practice of consuming swine during the holidays, was created to emulate the annual turkey pardoning at the White House.
The pig, provided by a local firefighter, was named for the popular vernacular phrase of young people exclaiming “six-seven” – originating from a musical verse – often seemingly at random. The phrase became so widespread that a leading lexicon site recently named “six-seven” its 2025 word of the year.
A Future Secured
The pardoned swine is now destined to live out its days at a rural sanctuary “away from grills and cookware”, according to the event’s official press release.
“The annual pig pardon has become one of our favorite ways to open the end-of-year celebrations,” said the event host, in a particularly upbeat message.
“It represents the essence of Miami: happy, diverse, and rooted in traditions that unite the community. Every time, we are proud to celebrate tradition and kindness in a way distinctively Miamian.”
Participants enjoyed a plant-based fare of spinach fritters and strong coffee as they celebrated the pig's pardon.
