The network's Leading Fresh Series of This Year Secures a Significant Extension for Seasons 2 and 3.

During the fall season, Adult Swim welcomed back its quirky hit, Smiling Friends. But, later that same month, the channel unveiled a fresh animated series with a strikingly different vibe. Haha, You Clowns proved to be sweet and soothing, in the spirit of a animated take of a laid-back talk show. In an era often defined by dark humor, this show's sincerity struck a chord and helped it become a breakout hit.

A Significant Investment

In mid-December, Adult Swim made a major announcement: Haha, You Clowns has been greenlit for two more seasons. This provides showrunner Joe Cappa a massive runway to expand upon the story of the Campbell family. The series follows three well-mannered teenage brothers whose central trait is their profound affection for their single father, with Cappa voicing for all four central characters.

"I’m so grateful to the audience of the show who gave *Haha, You Clowns* a chance and spread the word," said Cappa. "I am overjoyed that I get to hang out at the Campbell household for the foreseeable future."

A President's Endorsement

In the same announcement commendation from Adult Swim president Michael Ouweleen, who called the series as "profoundly sincere and strangely uncanny." He thanked the fans who found the show and supported its uniquely offbeat style.

"All of you showed up for this new show, championed for it on social media, and grew it week over week so we could greenlight not one, but two more seasons," commented Ouweleen. "To quote: 'You are strong! You are loved!'"

A Different Kind of Comedy

Earlier this fall, Haha, You Clowns was described as "a wholesome alternative" to more cynical adult animated fare. There’s something surprisingly comfy about following this endearing family go about their everyday routines.

At the time, creator Joe Cappa expressed his desire to help comedy break out of its current cynical streak. He attributed this trend to the rise of certain blockbuster franchises.

“It feels like there's a default mode of irony that we are trapped in,” explained Cappa. “The attitude is that we have to know we’re the smartest person in the room when we're watching stuff. I feel like we've been doing this for too long, and we just have to laugh at something different now. It's time for comedy to grow.”

Future Seasons

With this renewal, with Haha, You Clowns locked in for the future, Cappa has the opportunity to help usher in that very evolution. If nothing else, the renewal guarantees audiences additional episodes to bask in the heartfelt moments of the beloved Campbell clan.

The first season's conclusion of Haha, You Clowns is scheduled to air on December 21st. All episodes is currently streaming on HBO Max.
