Patrick Bamford Signs With the Blades After Leading Derogatory Chants Targeting Manager Chris Wilder
Patrick Bamford has signed with the Championship side only half a year following starting disrespectful songs directed at the team's coach, Wilder.
The 32-year-old striker, without a club since leaving Leeds, has put pen to paper on a agreement with the Championship strugglers through the winter. Bamford's seven-year time with Leeds was ended by mutual consent in August.
Among Bamford’s final notable acts as a Leeds player included starting offensive songs about Wilder during the club’s success festivities this spring. Currently, the one-cap England international will feature for Wilder as Sheffield United's boss seeks to pull his beloved club out of the relegation zone.
Previous Conflict Between the Striker & the Manager
Both men had a past before Leeds earned promotion to the top flight last season and United lost the playoff final by Sunderland. The manager called Bamford as “a muppet” back when the situation was different during the 2018-19 season and the Blades won automatic promotion while Leeds fell short in the playoffs.
Making Amends and Looking Ahead
All seems to have been put behind them with United, the Championship’s least productive attack, urgently requiring of a boost up front while Bamford hoping to revive his career.
The song about Wilder went viral in April. A repentant Bamford along with Leeds boss, Daniel Farke, phoned Wilder the next day.
Chris Wilder said back then: “Had a conversation with Patrick yesterday and I have no problem whatsoever with it. I'm uncertain about the words used from a fellow professional! But I valued and respected him calling me.
“We had a short while and similarly I talked with Daniel as well and we had a half-hour chat with him and he is a great person, a class act. When I was playing we used to dish it out and accept it and that’s an integral part of football at every level, even on a Sunday morning. I have no problem at all. I'm fine with it and I said that to Pat.”
Recent Playing Struggles
Bamford made 18 appearances for Leeds last season but the ex- Nottingham Forest, Chelsea FC & Boro striker has faced difficulties with injury over the past few seasons.
