Kansas City Chiefs Confirm Alleged Abuse Claims Connected to Player Rashee Rice
The Kansas City Chiefs issued a statement on Wednesday evening confirming they are aware of claims of abuse made public in online accounts by a ex-partner of player Rashee Rice and had been in communication with the NFL.
The organization omitted the name of the player specifically in their statement and noted they would have “no further comment at this time”.
Allegations Posted on Social Media
Dacoda Nichole Jones, who also did not mention the athlete directly, posted a set of images on social media that seemed to depict signs of physical abuse. She did say the individual in question was the parent of her kids, and it is known she has kids with the football player, whom the team selected in the second round.
Police Reports Reportedly Not on File
No police reports were on file in Overland Park, Kansas where the incident is said to have occurred.
Rice's Recent Legal Issues
The receiver was absent for the first six games of this NFL campaign due to an league-mandated ban for his involvement in instigating a crash on a Dallas highway that resulted in several individuals hurt. He was given a month of incarceration and five years’ probation after entering a guilty plea to serious offenses.
Statistically, Rice finished the year with 53 catches for 571 receiving yards and five touchdowns as the Kansas City finished with a losing record and missed the playoffs for the first occasion in a decade.
