Followers Demand Detainment of Man Who Touched Ariana Grande
Devoted fans of Ariana Grande are urging that a man who breached a barrier and seized the performer during Thursday's Wicked: For Good launch be detained or expelled from Singapore.
A circulating clip shows the person identified as Johnson Wen bypassing media personnel and lunging at Grande while the performers walked down a yellow carpet flanked by fans.
Co-star Cynthia Erivo quickly wrested the stunned performer away from Mr Wen, who was spotted being removed of the premiere by security officers.
Mr Wen shared on Instagram recently that he was "free after being detained", though legal records indicated that he was due to appear on the following morning. It is not clear if he was faced legal action.
History of Disruptions
This is not an isolated incident for Mr Wen, who describes himself as a "Troll Most Hated", has invaded a concert or event. His Instagram account features videos of him disrupting other star-studded functions, including rushing the platform at the artist's Sydney performance in June this year and in a like fashion during The Chainsmokers performance in the area last winter.
"Measures must be taken applied against him as this is obviously a legal violation," commented an Instagram user, in a response to a video Mr Wen shared of his actions.
"Oh wow so you do this a lot... how aren't you in jail?" one Instagram user wrote.
Followers Show Disapproval Over Grande's Well-being
Several fans criticized Mr Wen for "causing further distress" Grande, who had revealed dealing with trauma-related anxiety after a devastating incident at the conclusion of her May 2017 concert in Manchester, killing 22 people and injuring numerous individuals.
"The star has endured numerous terrifying experiences... including the Manchester tragedy, and you believed breaching security was amusing?" wrote a further comment on Instagram.
Several supporters also criticised guards at the premiere for not being sufficiently alert; while different individuals requested online networks to block Mr Wen's uploads.
Aftermath and Premiere Information
In clips spreading on the internet, Grande looked surprised when she was approached by the individual. Her fellow actors Michelle Yeoh and Erivo can be spotted consoling her while Mr Wen was escorted away by guards.
Grande has not commented on the event, and the premiere activities proceeded as normal.
Many of supporters had assembled in a crowd of green and pink at the Wicked: For Good regional debut in a Singapore mall, including several who had waited for as long as a significant duration before it commenced.
The film, to be launched on the 21st of November, is the second of a dual adaptation of the popular stage production Wicked, which revolves around the surprising friendship between two very different witches.
The production itself is a spin-off of the 1900 story The Wonderful Wizard of Oz.
Grande, who acts as the benevolent sorceress Glinda, was decked out in a light pink glittering gown at the premiere while Erivo, who plays the villainous character, wore a black tube gown embroidered with roses.
They were alongside fellow actor Jeff Goldblum.
The previous installment, Wicked, was the most successful motion picture of the previous year in the UK, and earned ten Oscar nominations, earning a pair for best costume and production design.
