Dominant Sabalenka Secures Consecutive WTA Player of the Year Honors.
The top-ranked player Aryna Sabalenka has been voted the Women's Tennis Association player of the year for a second consecutive year.
The twenty-seven-year-old secured four titles – the highest tally on the circuit – including successfully defending the US Open in September versus Amanda Anisimova to earn her fourth Grand Slam singles triumph.
A Season of Dominance
Throughout the year, Sabalenka reached a tour-best nine finals, with defeats coming against Madison Keys in the Australian Open final at the start of the year and Coco Gauff in the French Open final.
The Belarusian also claimed victory at the Brisbane International early in the season, the Miami Open in March, and the Madrid Open in May. She remained the whole season as the top-ranked player, finishing 2025 on top of the rankings for a second straight year.
This past summer, she became the first athlete to top 12,000 WTA ranking points since Serena Williams did so nearly a decade ago.
Record-Breaking Statistics
Sabalenka concluded the season with a 63-12 match record, and collected a historic eleven million pounds in earnings.
She received nearly eighty percent of the votes submitted by international tennis media.
Later this month, she is poised to compete against 2022 Wimbledon runner-up Nick Kyrgios in a Battle of the Sexes-style exhibition match in a bid to "elevate women's tennis to a greater prominence".
Additional WTA Award Winners
- Comeback Player of the Year: Switzerland's Belinda Bencic, twenty-eight, received the award after taking a 13-month break following the arrival of her first child and making her comeback to the sport at the start of this year.
- Fresh Face of the Year: Canadian teenager Victoria Mboko picked up the award after beginning the season positioned outside the world's top 300 and soaring to world number 18.
- Doubles Team of the Year: Katerina Siniakova and Taylor Townsend were voted after capturing their second career Grand Slam title together.
- Biggest Leap of the Year: Amanda Anisimova received the accolade after advancing to five championship matches.
Last week, Carlos Alcaraz took home three honours in the Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP) Awards, including the year-end number one award, while Jannik Sinner was chosen as fans' favourite for a third time.
