A systems problem at the airport's air traffic control meant all flights could arrive or depart from the hub.

Passenger services have recommenced at Scotland's primary international airport after a significant ATC system failure halted all operations.

All incoming and outgoing flights were halted after an systems problem that was reported at approximately 08:30.

A number of travelers found themselves stranded in aircraft on the tarmac as the outage continued.

Services Recommence with Continued Disruption

A statement indicated at 10:40 that flights had resumed, and expressed gratitude to passengers for their "understanding and cooperation".

However, significant disruption are expected to persist for some time. Flights to London Gatwick, Bristol, Amsterdam and Frankfurt have been axed, with numerous other services subject to postponements.

Officials had earlier anticipated that 27 departures and 11 arrivals could be affected.

"Passengers are advised to get in touch with their carrier for the current status on their specific flights," was the consistent advice.

Cause of the Chaos

Officials linked the full ground stop to an technical fault with its control tower systems vendor.

Flyers continue to be advised to verify the schedule of their trip before departing to the airport as residual delays are worked through.
